McNamara (James Cagney) is the general manager of the Coca-Cola Company's West German branch. For a long time, he has been working diligently for the company, consistently achieving record performances, making him a favorite in the eyes of his boss and the most promising candidate for promotion. One day, McNamara receives a call from his boss, informing him that his daughter Scarlett (Pamela Tiffin) is about to travel to West Germany and hopes that McNamara can be her guardian. However, what McNamara did not expect is that Scarlett, although young, has a passionate and exuberant personality. Shortly after arriving in West Germany, she falls in love with a man named Otto (Horst Buchholz). They not only get married, but Scarlett is also pregnant with Otto's child. Worse, Otto comes from East Germany and is a staunch socialist who despises everything capitalist. Just at this critical moment, McNamara learns that his boss will soon be traveling to West Germany to pick up his daughter.
