The Tokugawa shogunate, which lasted for over two hundred years, is gradually coming to an end, while the people living in the Kaga Domain continue to lead relatively peaceful lives. Naoyuki Inoyama (played by Masato Sakai) is a samurai serving in the domain. Although he is a member of the warrior class, he rarely wields a sword, with his main job being that of a "sanyōnin," akin to a modern-day accountant. Every day, he primarily handles an abacus and account books, a role that has been passed down through the Inoyama family for generations. Naoyuki is loyal and kind, diligently fulfilling his duties, which inevitably brings him into conflict with greedy and ruthless individuals. He remains unaffected by wealth or poverty, accepting both with equanimity. Soon, Naoyuki marries a beautiful girl named Akoma (played by Yuki Nakama), while the Inoyama family's income becomes increasingly strained for various reasons, forcing Naoyuki to manage the household finances...This film is adapted from the work of historian Michifumi Isoda, titled "The Samurai's Household Account: The 'Sanyōnin' of the Kaga Domain during the Bakumatsu and Meiji Era," based on the household account book of Naoyuki Inoyama from the Tokugawa shogunate period.
