Jane (Ashley Olsen) and Roxy (Mary-Kate Olsen) are a pair of twins from the Ryan family. They look alike and are related by blood, but their personalities are completely different. Jane loves studying and is well-behaved; Roxy is rebellious and competitive, often skipping classes. The sisters are both heading to New York, each striving for her own dream. The difference is that Jane is going for her college diploma, participating in a speech contest, while Roxy is pursuing her musical path, hoping to find the most avant-garde music in New York and get noticed by outstanding musicians.
They each head to Manhattan but find themselves lost on their journey. The unfamiliar places make it hard for them to adapt, yet the sisters refuse to forget their dreams during difficult times and continue to push forward.
