Jamie (Glen Berry), who grew up in a single-parent family and doesn't like sports, feels very out of place at school, making attending school his biggest headache. As he grows older, communication with his mother becomes strained, especially after she starts dating a clumsy and straightforward boyfriend, leaving him unsure of how to relate to her. His neighbor, handsome young man Ste (Scott Neal), isn't in a much better situation; he often gets beaten by his alcoholic father and brother. One day, after being beaten by his family and thrown out, Ste is taken in by Jamie's mother, who feels sorry for him and lets him sleep over with Jamie. Although the two boys don't share a pillow on their first night, they develop unusual feelings for each other. As they continue to share the bed, they gradually fall in love, but trouble soon follows.
