Gina (played by Queen Latifah) is a skilled beautician who leaves Chicago and travels all the way to Atlanta with her daughter Vanessa (played by Paige Hurd), where Vanessa is set to attend a music school. In Atlanta, Gina returns to her craft and becomes a hairstylist at a salon, earning a good income, but the owner, George (played by Kevin Bacon), is an eccentric man who often makes trouble for Gina. After numerous humiliating encounters with George, Gina decides to quit and open her own beauty shop. However, this seems simple in theory but proves to be filled with challenges in practice. Fortunately, Gina possesses exceptional intelligence and solid skills, and over time, her beauty shop gradually gets on the right track and gains a loyal customer base. Meanwhile, sparks begin to fly between Gina and a mechanic named Joe (played by Djimon Hounsou).
