Lawrence (Dennis Quaid) is a demanding middle-aged professor. Though kind-hearted, his distant demeanor makes students dislike him, and his son and daughter are growing increasingly cold towards him. Since his wife's death, he has become even more irritated and helpless while raising their two children alone.
