By chance, Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover), this good pair of partners, stumble upon an illegal smuggling operation involving South African gold coins. With a strong sense of justice, the two are determined not to stand idly by, leading to a series of explosive chases filled with intense action. As the investigation deepens, a man named Aiken (Joss Ackland) emerges, whose true identity turns out to be a South African diplomat enjoying diplomatic immunity, putting Riggs and Murtaugh in a difficult position. They are assigned by their boss to protect a man named Gates (Joe Pesci), who was once Aiken’s accomplice in money laundering and has now become a police informant. Soon, a series of events make Riggs and Murtaugh realize that protecting Gates is even more dangerous and challenging than chasing Aiken.
