Fisher (played by Robert Norman) was born into a very traditional Scottish family with a strict family atmosphere, which made his entire childhood oppressive. Fortunately, Fisher's father Edward (Colin Firth) is playful and carefree, while his mother Maria is gentle and kind (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), and their presence is the only bright spot in Fisher's dull childhood. One day, a woman named Celia (Irène Jacob) comes to the village, and her free-spirited personality quickly attracts Fisher's attention. Meanwhile, the bond between father and son leads the perceptive Fisher to realize that his father is also very interested in Celia. It turns out that both father and son have feelings for the same woman, making the story more interesting.
