In April 1988, on the island of Ouvea in French New Caledonia, 30 police officers were taken hostage by a Kanak independence group. France dispatched 300 soldiers to restore order. Two men face to face: Philippe Legorju, captain of the French National Gendarmerie Intervention Group, and Alphonse Dianou, the leader of the hostage-takers. Through their shared values, they attempt to resolve the situation through dialogue. However, it was a presidential election period, and when the key challenges were political, order was not always governed by morality…
