The film begins with a young man (Richard Linklater) recounting a peculiar dream to a taxi driver and pondering how he ended up in the taxi, but the driver is uninterested. The young man gets out, witnesses a woman lying on the ground after an accident, and takes her handbag. The woman was killed by her son, and two policemen take the son away from their home. A street performer plays the guitar and sings, while three men in a restaurant discuss Dostoevsky and great works. One man's friend has gone missing, and a stranger reveals secrets about the American moon landing and the true reasons behind some disappearances. A young man has quietly moved out, and his roommates find numerous postcards in his room, featuring phrases torn from various books. Two women are conversing on the street, predicting that the next person to pass by will die within two weeks..... This is a film without a specific plot or main characters.
