After the outbreak of the Pacific War in 1941, the Jingpu Railway that runs through Shandong became one of the most important strategic transportation lines for the Japanese army in mainland China. In the vicinity of the Zaozhuang section of the Jingpu Railway, a civilian anti-Japanese guerrilla team was active, primarily consisting of several railway workers from the Zaozhuang train station, led by Ma Yuan, who was the head porter at the train station. They worked during the day at the train station occupied and managed by the Japanese and secretly carried out activities at night. Leveraging their familiarity with the railway and their special skills in hijacking and operating trains, this small guerrilla team engaged in combat with the well-equipped regular Japanese army, causing a significant impact. The local people gave this team a catchy name, calling them the Railroad Tigers.
