The film tells the story of 1994, where Zhang Zhengheng (played by Zhan Huaiyun), Cheng Xiang (played by Qiu Yitai), and Wang Shanghe (played by Wu Jianhe) are the troublesome "Three Musketeers" of the Success Tutorial Class. At 17, they are in the prime of their youth with hormones raging. In this tutorial class that prioritizes academic advancement and prohibits dating, the three boys from different families and with different personalities are forced to suppress their desire for self-exploration and fully prepare for the joint entrance exam. Zhengheng wants to experience a passionate romance before graduation but lacks the courage to even talk to girls; Cheng Xiang, whose parents are estranged, moves into Zhengheng's house to prepare for the exam and changes girlfriends frequently, yet he doesn't know what true love really is; Wang Shanghe's father is the head teacher of the tutorial class, and under his high-pressure management, he can only suppress his thoughts and strive to meet his father's expectations. The friendship of the three begins to undergo a strange transformation because of a girl named "Chen Si" (played by Lin Yilan). It is not until they meet the new teacher Liu Jingzhi (played by Hou Yanxi) that their journey of self-discovery finally begins. The story is inspired by the experiences of Lan Zhenglong’s tutor class and the late documentary director Chen Junzhi (the film transposes the timeframe to high school). Although the Three Musketeers may not necessarily reflect their own experiences or those of their classmates at that time, it draws from the experiences of others around them, culminating in a somewhat absurd yet passionate story that ultimately brings a bittersweet feeling by the end.
