A theater troupe led by the hypnotist Vogler is detained and questioned by the local police chief and relevant authorities in a small town on their way to Stockholm. They are ordered to perform magic tricks in public to verify the existence of supernatural phenomena. As a result, their antics are exposed, but during their stay, they experience many unexpected adventures and changes, ultimately being summoned by the king to continue their journey.
