Boy George Newton's father dies in a test flight accident, leading the basketball-loving George to become introverted and silent, often mocked by classmates at school. On his way to move, he encounters Buddy, a golden retriever who has just escaped from his abusive owner. After returning home, George meets Buddy again while playing basketball in the backyard and discovers that Buddy enjoys playing basketball too. He brings Buddy home, starting a new chapter in his life, and his personality begins to change. In a chance conversation, he finds out that the black uncle who helps him clean is actually the former famous basketball star Arthur. Arthur helps improve his basketball skills and teaches him many life lessons. During a game, Buddy's owner sees the basketball-playing dog on TV and goes to reclaim him. After saving Buddy, George releases him on a deserted island to prevent his owner from finding him again. After losing Buddy, George faces defeat in his games, but Buddy unexpectedly shows up and leads the team to victory. In the end, Buddy is awarded to George by the judge, and the two good friends are never separated again...
