Charlotte (played by Sandra Dee) was born into a very open-minded family. Her mother, Jeman (played by Micheline Presle), is a charming French woman, and Charlotte has inherited her mother's romantic nature. One day, Charlotte meets a photographer named Eugene (played by Bobby Darin), whose extraordinary talent quickly captivates her and makes her fall in love. However, Charlotte is troubled because Eugene is averse to marriage.
Charlotte seeks help from her mother, and with Jeman's guidance, they eventually succeed in entering the sacred bond of marriage. But the happy life doesn’t last long; Charlotte's old classmate Tina (played by Stefanie Powers) becomes Eugene's new model. As she sees her husband growing more indifferent towards her, Charlotte becomes anxious.
