Taiwanese gangster boss Long Rifu is attacked, but is saved by his wise and courageous adoptive son Long Yi (played by Deng Guangrong), who risks his life to rescue him. Afterward, Long Yi is chosen as his successor, which brings dissatisfaction from Long Rifu's biological sons, Long Er (played by Ren Dahua) and Long San. The latter even attempts to kill Long Yi, prompting Long Rifu, in pain, to order Long Er to eliminate him. Unexpectedly, Long Er turns against Long Rifu and sends him to the afterlife as well. Soon after, Long Er commands his confidant Xiao Lin (played by Li Ming) to hunt down Long Yi. Although Xiao Lin is loyal to Long Er, he is also infatuated with Long Yi. After a difficult choice between loyalty and righteousness, he disobeys orders and lets the injured Long Yi and his wife, Xueer, escape to Hong Kong, where they live under aliases. Long Yi accidentally befriends bar owner Cheng Li and her brother Da Fei (played by Liu Dehua). Although Da Fei is a thug, he possesses a strong sense of justice, and the two develop a bond of life and death due to certain events. Later, when Da Fei clashes with a drunken chicken (an enemy), Long Yi, who vowed to stay out of the underworld, rises again for his friend, not knowing that the drunken chicken is actually sent by Long Er.
