The cemetery caretaker named after Death, Dlamothe (played by Rupert Everett), has recently encountered trouble: the buried corpses rise after seven days due to zombie plague to attack the living. As a result, Dlamothe and his overweight assistant Nagy (played by François Hadji-Lazaro) often have to send those zombies back to hell. Dlamothe and Nagy's dull work lives gain some vitality through their respective romantic experiences, yet the ultimate fates of their lovers are not ideal. When Dlamothe is on the brink of collapse, Death appears to incite him to shoot the living, and the situation begins to evolve into more absurdity... This film won the Silver Scream Award at the 1995 Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, the Audience Award at the Gérardmer Film Festival, Best Actor at the 1996 International Fantasy Film Festival in Portugal, and Best Actor and Best Visual Effects at the 1997 Malaga International Fantastic Film Week.
