The Amacost couple living in Houston enjoys a comfortable and happy life. The wife, Gillian (Charlize Theron), is an elementary school teacher, while her husband, Spencer (Johnny Depp), is an astronaut working for NASA. To repair a malfunctioning satellite, Spencer and his old partner, Alex Shrek (Nick Cassavetes), enter Earth’s orbit. However, the seemingly simple mission takes a turn for the worse when the faulty satellite explodes, causing the two men to lose contact with Earth for two full minutes. Fortunately, they are unscathed and eventually return safely to Earth.
Afterwards, Spencer and Alex remain silent about the mysterious two minutes, and Gillian senses something is wrong. Just before Spencer decides to quit and move to New York with his wife, Alex and his wife, Natalie (Donna Murphy), die in quick succession. Gillian feels deeply unsettled, sensing that some ominous events are destined to happen to her and her husband...
