In the year 2163, 40 members of humanity pilot a faster-than-light spaceship out of the solar system, heading to the Alpha Centauri system. They seek to find out if life exists there that is similar to humans. After completing their mission, they will return to Earth after 15 years of travel. However, unexpected situations arise during the journey... The film "Ikarie XB 1" was shot in 1963 when Kubrick had not yet made "2001: A Space Odyssey," and humanity had not yet landed on the Moon. Imaginative Eastern European filmmakers boldly hypothesized about the existence of life beyond humanity in the universe and sought answers through their work. This film is the first science fiction movie from Czechoslovakia, adapted from the famous Polish science fiction writer Stanisław Lem's novel "Magellan Cloud."
