The story takes place in the distant year of 2057, where the gradual exhaustion of the sun poses the greatest crisis humanity has ever faced. If sunlight is lost, the earth will fall into darkness and freeze, never to see the light of day again. To save the planet, an eight-member action team was formed, consisting of the steady old city captain, Kaneda (Hiroyuki Sanada), the botany expert, Cerenzo (Michelle Yeoh), the sailing master, Trey (Benedict Wong), physicist Capra (Cillian Murphy), pilot Cassie (Rose Byrne) and her assistant Mas (Chris Evans), commander Harvey (Troy Garity), and Dr. Shirel (Cliff Curtis).
