The film fictitiously depicts a space program to land on Mars. Unfortunately, the screenwriters undermine the film's meticulous research, resulting in poorly crafted plot points, such as the commander abruptly ending the Mars landing mission due to an odd religious stance at the end of the film. The filming equipment used was cinemascope (which was likely the only one at the time, owned by Fox, and was also used for two other major productions, "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea"). Like other major sci-fi films of the era, the movie hired rocket expert Wernher von Braun as a technical advisor; it showcased the V2 rocket and a space station, marking a first in cinema history. Additionally, the film makes ideological progress by not being limited to the Cold War themes of the 1950s; its themes are grander, and it also "carefully selects" its actors based on skin color to strive for a certain balance. Of course, the film's biggest problem is that it sacrifices entertainment for the sake of scientific accuracy. Clearly, this film aims to break free from the "lowbrow" traditions of old sci-fi movies, but when Mars is no longer populated by monsters and aliens, capturing the audience's attention becomes a significant challenge. Nevertheless, "Conquest of Space" is undoubtedly a sci-fi masterpiece that should not be overlooked.
