Ten years after the Jedi Knights defeated the Sith apprentice, the Galactic Republic faces a new threat. Former Jedi Knight Count Dooku (played by Christopher Lee) incites thousands of star systems to secede from the Republic and prepares a large army of battle droids for a coup. Padmé Amidala (played by Natalie Portman), arriving on the planet Coruscant as a senator after her term as queen of Naboo, is determined to cast a crucial vote for the formation of a Republican army. Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor), along with the now-grown Anakin (played by Hayden Christensen), is assigned to protect Amidala's safety. As Anakin escorts Amidala back to Naboo for refuge, they develop feelings for each other and decide to travel to Tatooine to find Anakin's mother. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan investigates the assassin's trail deep into the planet Geonosis, uncovering Count Dooku's conspiracy but finds himself imprisoned and in imminent danger... This film was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 75th Academy Awards in 2003.
