A five-part documentary created by the creators of "The Feral Kingdom" tells the stories within the vast world of sports from a fresh perspective. From tennis to boxing to basketball, even if you think you’ve heard these stories before, there’s a refreshing sense when watching. Updated weekly, each film begins with an iconic major event (championships, Olympics, playoffs), then delves deeper into what happens beyond the headlines through the narratives of those who experienced it firsthand, revealing the courage, resilience, heartbreak, victory, violence, comedy, and sadness hidden beneath the sweat. Eyewitnesses to the famous "Palace of Auburn Hills Brawl" unveil the inside story; Olympic athlete Caitlyn Jenner reflects on her journey to winning gold; boxer Christi Martin fights a life-and-death battle outside the ring; professional tennis player Mardy Fish shares his struggles with mental health; the mismatched hockey players of the "Trashers" team follow orders from a teenager allegedly the son of a mob boss... "The Secret History of Sports" recounts the passion and focus required to become a champion and the various ways to peel back the layers of victory off the field. People say it's a competition for the title of the world's greatest athlete. During a grueling two-day event, competitors' abilities to run, jump, and throw will be tested. After a failed attempt in 1972, Caitlyn Jenner set a goal for herself: to win the decathlon gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. After four years of relentless training, Jenner became the favorite to win. But for Jenner, the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics was not just a test of athleticism. It was an easily accepted distraction from more challenging inner turmoil. After setting a new world record in Montreal and winning gold, Jenner's image became the standard for athletic excellence, and she instantly became a superstar in America. However, the athletic achievements she craved and the celebrity image she crafted also became the main obstacles to accepting her identity. Through a series of never-before-seen archival footage (including newly discovered Olympic footage and family videos of the Jenner family), Jenner recalls her life from a fresh perspective, from winning gold to deciding to return to her family and children, with a clear understanding of her past self and present self.
