High school graduate Rico (played by Casper Van Dien) is urged by his girlfriend Carmen (played by Denise Richards) to defy his father's wishes and join the Mobile Infantry Academy, while Carmen enrolls in the Naval Academy as well. Shortly after they begin training, Earth is attacked by insectoid aliens. Rico's family is brutally killed, and Carmen sends the footage of the attack to Rico. Filled with rage and sorrow, Rico leads his unit into battle against the alien insects. However, the military underestimates the strength of these insects. In a skirmish, 100,000 soldiers are slaughtered, leaving only Rico, Carmen, and a few others to escape. Rico witnesses the horrific massacre firsthand and unexpectedly learns the secret behind the insects' intelligence and power. He realizes that humanity must develop more advanced weapons to combat these creatures, and the counter-offensive begins!
