The transformation of time and space, the passage between the present and the future, unfolds mysteriously in Jack (Adrien Brody) who was originally an American soldier who had participated in the Gulf War. An accidental gunshot wound leaves him with amnesia, turning him into an amnesiac. Even worse, he is mistaken for a murder suspect by the police and brought in for interrogation. Determined to have a mental illness, Jack avoids prison and is instead sent to a psychiatric hospital as a subject for a scientific experiment. Doctors dress Jack in tight-fitting garments and place him in a morgue. It is dark and cold here, with only scattered memory fragments accompanying Jack. Among these fragments are images of his future self, a beloved woman named Jackie (Keira Knightley), and messages indicating that he is near death. Seeing the future Jack in his memories, he searches for the key to life amidst a glimmer of hope.
