One day, the Earth, home to humanity, was violently attacked by aliens. Modern facilities and advanced technology suffered devastating blows, as human civilization seemed to regress to the Stone Age. Casey (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) and her brother Sam (played by Zackary Arthur) lost their mother in the disaster. They had no time to grieve and followed their father Oliver (played by Ron Livingston) to a refugee camp for shelter. Colonel Vosch (played by Liev Schreiber) led the military to the refugee camp, taking the children away and claiming they would return for the remaining adults. Casey and Sam reluctantly left their father behind. Sam's beloved teddy bear was left in the camp, and Casey returned to find it, only to discover that the aliens possessed the ability to inhabit human bodies, causing chaos in the camp. In the confusion, Casey and Sam became separated. Determined to find her brother, Casey bravely set off on a perilous journey.
