FBI agent Joe (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his partner Catherine (played by Abbie Cornish) are investigating a serial murder case. The brutality of the methods and the confusion of the logic leave the two agents at a loss. In desperation, they seek out the reclusive spirit detective John (played by Anthony Hopkins), hoping to use his psychic abilities to find useful clues. However, the killer seems to be aware of John's return, and unabashedly commits another crime, leaving behind provocative notes. As the investigation deepens, John gradually discovers that the murderer possesses psychic abilities just like him, and compared to the killer, his team is clearly at a disadvantage with no chance of turning the tables. Just when John and his team find themselves cornered, the murderer unexpectedly reveals their true identity.
