A serial killer (played by Peter Lorre) targeting little girls is on the loose, causing panic in the city. The police are mobilized, conducting frequent surprise inspections. The gang leader (played by Gustaf Gründgens), severely affected in business, decides to leverage the concealment of beggars to set up a trap. A blind beggar selling balloons (played by Georg John) identifies the killer through the whistle from "In the Realm of the King," and his accomplice (Carl Balhaus) seizes the opportunity to mark the first letter "M" of "Mörder" on his back. Although the police have pinpointed the killer's residence, the killer is cornered by the beggars in a commercial building, becoming a sitting duck. Late at night, what kind of defense will the killer make in the mob's makeshift court?
