In 1974, Oxford University professor Joseph Coupland (Jared Harris) firmly believes in the existence of supernatural phenomena that current science cannot explain. To prove his point, he gathers a group of three young people: Brian (Sam Claflin), Harry (Rory Fleck-Byrne), and Kris (Erin Richards) to conduct an experiment on a girl named Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke). Numerous inexplicable events have occurred around Jane; she claims that an invisible friend named Ivy has disrupted her life, and the incidents have garnered wide attention, with even officials admitting that Jane is possessed by a demon. Joseph is confident and, even after funding for the research is withdrawn, he remains determined to uncover the cause of the girl's mental instability.
