A nun suicide incident occurs in a remote Romanian monastery. In response, the Vatican sends Father Burke (Demián Bichir) and novice nun Irene (Taissa Farmiga) to investigate. Upon their arrival, they first meet a French youth named Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet), who regularly delivers supplies to the monastery and is the first eyewitness to discover the nun's body. The three enter the monastery, where the atmosphere is eerie, and the nuns appear ghostlike. The unseen abbess claims that the nuns are in silent prayer and will not answer their questions until the next day. Reluctantly, Father Burke and his team have no choice but to temporarily stay at the monastery. As night falls, the true horror begins to emerge, with demons indiscriminately targeting their devout faith...
