Drug enforcement officer Newlyweds Miguel "Mike" Vargas (Charlton Heston) and his wife Susie (Janet Leigh) arrive at the U.S.-Mexico border. An explosion occurs on the road, and Vargas suspects it is related to drug traffickers, so he starts an investigation with the local police. Hank Quinlan (Orson Welles) is the police captain with a notorious reputation in the area.
