In Barrow, a remote town located in the Arctic Circle of northern Alaska, there are thirty days of polar night each year. During these thirty days, the townspeople endure long nights before they can see the light again. When another polar night approaches, the arrival of a mysterious drifter (played by Ben Foster) disrupts the quiet life of the town. The town's sheriff, Eben (played by Josh Hartnett), discovers that a group of twenty vampires, led by the cunning and ruthless Marlow (played by Danny Huston), is planning to attack the town, putting the remaining residents who did not migrate south in grave danger. As the town's leader, Eben is compelled to lead the remaining elderly and vulnerable residents against the savage vampires; meanwhile, his relationship with his wife Stella (played by Melissa George) is strained and on the verge of collapse. With all these problems piling up, can Eben accomplish this nearly impossible task?
