Harry (played by Richard Widmark) is a humble pimp, yet he has never been satisfied with his status, always seeking ways to get rich. By chance, Harry meets a wrestler named George (played by Stanislaus Zbyszko), and the two quickly bond, deciding to organize a wrestling match for profit. Harry recruits the popular wrestler Mike (played by Mike Mazurki) to face Nicholas (played by Ken Richmond), one of George’s followers. This showdown quickly becomes a legendary event in the local community. Harry’s high profile irritates the gangsters who monopolize local wrestling profits. In addition, George’s son expresses strong dissatisfaction with Harry, while the bar owner, Phil (played by Francis L. Sullivan), sees this as an opportunity to eliminate the scoundrel who is involved with his wife Helen (played by Googie Withers). An unexpected incident leads to George's tragic death, putting Harry in grave danger.
