In the late 20th century, a mysterious virus spreads across the world, with all its victims dying from blood loss. Rock music lover Kenji Endo (played by Toshiaki Karasawa) went through a rebellious phase and is now approaching thirty, running a chain supermarket in his hometown of Osaka. He faces scoldings from higher-ups, a nagging mother, and his sister's crying child. Kenji handles everything with caution, feeling overwhelmed. At a reunion with his elementary school classmates, he reconnects with old friends Yoshitane (played by Teruyuki Kagawa), Frog (played by Hiroyuki Miyasako), Maruo (played by Hidehiko Ishizuka), Fukubei (played by Kuranosuke Sasaki), and Amen (played by Takeshi Urajima). They learn of a mysterious religious organization that is trending in society, with its leader calling himself "Friend." A series of recent terror events are traced back to a "Book of Prophecies" that the friends invented as children. Soon after, another childhood friend, Tomodachi (played by Katsuhisa Namase), commits suicide. Days before his death, he sent Kenji a letter mentioning the symbol of a secret base. To uncover the truth, Kenji and his friends dig up an iron box they buried under a tree as children, discovering the "Book of Prophecies." They realize that the absurd stories they created as kids are now coming true, and this "Friend" seems to be one of them. What could his intentions be?
