Steven (Colin Farrell) is an esteemed cardiothoracic surgeon, who, along with his doctor wife Anna (Nicole Kidman), has two children and a very affluent and happy family. Recently, Steven has befriended a sixteen-year-old boy named Martin. The two share everything and are very close, like father and son, often inviting him over in hopes that the seemingly troubled Martin can become friends with their children and lift his spirits.
