During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, a young man named Yang Luchan (played by Wang Qun) from Yongnian County, Zhili, practiced martial arts since childhood. In search of improvement, he followed his master's advice and arrived at Chenjiagou in Wenxian County, Henan Province, intending to apprentice under the Taijiquan master Chen Changxing. However, upon entering Chenjiagou, he got into a fierce fight with Chen's disciples over a just cause, and Chen, having a stubborn nature, refused to take him as a disciple. Despite Yang Luchan's sincere and earnest attempts, he was unable to change Chen's mind. Frustrated, Yang left in a huff, vowing to return ten years later to compete with Chen. After that, he studied under various masters like Zeng Daye and Zong Shengsun, but eventually, both master and students turned into bitter enemies. After three years of hardship, the down-and-out Yang Luchan returned to Chenjiagou. At this time, he went so far as to disguise himself as a beggar to enter Chen's home, all for the sake of mastering the secrets of the Chen style... This film is adapted from the story of the Taijiquan master Yang Luchan, who learned from Chen Changxing and later transformed and evolved into Yang-style Taijiquan through continuous refinement.
