The famous stage actress Maki Shuri received a foreboding letter from the Phantom Thief Kaito Kid today: amidst the swirling dance of 26 letters, he comes to claim the priceless "Gem of Fate." Kogoro Mouri is commissioned by Maki Shuri to analyze the letter, believing that Kid will come to steal the gem on the last night of the performance. That evening, he, Conan, Ran, and others arrive at the theater, where many police officers are already waiting. To Conan's surprise, Kid appears disguised as Shinichi Kudo. However, despite the tension and differing directions of everyone, the gem is not stolen. Conan realizes that the letter's clues relate to a flight.
