On a day in 1915, at the Qing West Mausoleum in Yixian, Hebei, the sound of drums and gongs filled the air. A grand procession brought Concubine Zhen's remains here and buried her. Her loyal eunuch Fu Hai (played by Gu Lan) stayed behind to guard his master's tomb. Time flew by, and 23 years later, the Qing Dynasty had long been overthrown, and China was plunged into a period of turmoil, with internal strife and foreign threats, causing suffering among the people. In a tavern, patrons reminisced about the past and claimed that Empress Dowager Cixi (played by Zhu Lin) caused the death of Concubine Zhen (played by Li Jing) and later, out of inner panic, buried her with immeasurable wealth. It was an unintentional remark that piqued the interest of many. The legend of the treasures stirred various groups into action.
