A censor is imprisoned for accidentally killing someone, and after his release, he wanders to Paris. One day, a stranger gives him 200 francs, and at first, he refuses to accept the money because he knows he can't pay it back. The stranger tells him to return the money to a certain church and give it to "Little Teresa" (symbolizing Sister Teresa) when he is able to repay it, and only then does he agree to take the money. Subsequently, his life undergoes a series of wonderful changes as he continuously searches for that church and "Little Teresa," during which he finds his spiritual redemption. The film depicts the theme of a sinner seeking redemption; although the subject matter is serious, the director's approach is quite interesting, and the plot is rich in imagination. It won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
