The film tells the story of three friends—Kosta, a Greek, Bopi, an Albanian, and Gabriel, a Turk—set in Hamburg. Gabriel, whose parents are Turkish, starts a new life after coming out of prison. Serbian Bopi wants to join the Albanian mafia and embark on a life of crime. Meanwhile, Greek Kosta is deeply involved in a massive arms deal. This film is a vivid debut by Turkish director Fatih Akin, depicting realism and dramatic conflict reminiscent of Fassbinder's early gangster movies and recalling Martin Scorsese's early works.
