A pair of sisters return to their hometown in Colorado, only to find that everyone in the town is dead, their bodies swollen... In the end, they encounter two survivors, the town's sheriff and deputy. With no means of escape and their communication facilities destroyed, they have no choice but to call for help via radio. The government dispatches a large military presence to seal off the town, alongside a professor specializing in ancient history. The conclusion drawn is that the attackers are not extraterrestrial beings, but unknown creatures from the Earth's core, referred to as "Ancient Enemies." They will collectively face terrifying and chilling phenomena. The film is adapted from Dean Koontz's 1983 novel of the same name. Some reviewers note that, due to the involvement of the world-renowned KNB effects company, this version offers a more visually appealing narrative than the original.
