Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins), a postal worker currently employed in New York, is a retired veteran who faced life-threatening situations during the Vietnam War. The fragmented memories that he cannot bear to revisit constantly torment his every nerve—his failed first marriage, the death of his son, and the deep scars left by post-traumatic stress from the war. He often experiences hallucinations of being pursued during his service in Vietnam, with details that are both familiar and strange, blurring the line between reality and illusion.
