David Lightman (played by Matthew Broderick) is a genius teenager who spends all his free time on computer games. One day, while searching, he stumbles upon a network computer and, after a simple hack, starts playing a game called "Global Thermonuclear War," a simulation of a world war. But David doesn't know that hidden behind "Global Thermonuclear War" is the United States military's War Operation Plan Response system (WOPR). This confidential system controls the U.S. military's weapons, and the game David started inadvertently triggers the automatic preparation to launch nuclear missiles! The Third World War is on the verge of breaking out, and armies around the world are on high alert. David must take action; he needs to use his hacking skills to stop the computer from launching the nuclear missiles and prevent all this from happening.
