The film consists of three interconnected short stories. The king (John C. Reilly) is most fond of his spoiled princess Viola (Bebe Cave) and his pet flea, which unexpectedly grows to the size of a sheep. The queen (Salma Hayek) has been troubled by infertility for years. The king trades his life for the heart of a sea beast for her to eat, which should cure her, but unexpectedly, not only does the queen become pregnant, but the maid who prepares the heart for her also becomes pregnant, and both give birth at the same time. The king falls in love with a woman singing below the castle, unaware that she is actually an ugly old witch with a twin sister. He invites one of them for a romantic evening, only to get caught up in a rebellion.
