"Dark Current" was released in France on September 27, 2000, receiving rave reviews, with over a million viewers in its first week, becoming the highest-grossing film in France for 2000. The experienced Paris detective Pierre (Jean Reno) comes to a university town to investigate the bizarre case of a body strangled and hanging off a cliff. After an investigation, he discovers that this prestigious institution has a long history and produces many talents, but the school has implemented an elite concept that allows faculty members to marry within their generations. Meanwhile, the ambitious local young police officer Max (Vincent Cassel) is investigating the mysterious disappearance of a girl 20 years ago from a small chapel, where someone has invaded the tomb of ten-year-old Judith, who died in a car accident eighteen years ago, and painted Nazi symbols there. The seemingly isolated cases have an inner connection, leading two detectives with vastly different styles to become partners and uncover the secrets within. After peeling back layers of intrigue, the truth hidden behind the cases finally comes to light.
