The Yamaguchi group's hideout in the "Rogue Apartment" of Shinjuku's Kabukicho. After the boss of the organized crime group Anjou, Anjou Yoshio, disappears with his mistress and 100 million yen in cash, there are daily murders of gang members in the Rogue Apartment. The outside world concludes that this is the work of the legendary assassin "Ichi." The militant faction leader, Kaihara (played by Tadanobu Asano), begins a frantic search for the killer. Kaihara is an extreme masochist who idolizes and worships the abusive leader as his god. Kaihara mistakenly trusts retired gangster Uncle and kidnaps the leader of a rival gang, torturing him for information, which causes turmoil in the underworld, leaving Anjou's group in a tough spot. The boss's mistress, Karen (played by Sun Jiajun), who is familiar with Uncle, risks herself to please Kaihara. With Uncle's help, Karen gradually approaches the mysterious assassin Ichi... This is a masterpiece by renowned director Takashi Miike, pushing bloody violent aesthetics to the extreme.
