Somewhere in the world, there are forests rarely trodden by humans, where legends say one cannot return after entering. The story unfolds in such a "suicide forest," where a woman is raped and murdered, prompting the police to tirelessly seek evidence to prosecute the suspect, Huang Baimu (played by Zhou Junwei). This case becomes the first one for the newly appointed officer, Xia Songzi (played by Shu Qi). In light of multiple suicide and disappearance cases in the woods, she suspects there is more than one killer. To gather more evidence, Songzi decides to investigate deeper into the woods. 彭海 (played by Zheng Yijian) is a senior botany PhD who devotes time and money to communicate with plants, seeking to prove that they are also alive and have feelings. His girlfriend, Meishu (played by Li Caihua), is a television host who, for the sake of ratings, distorts facts and collaborates with rumors to create a ghost story program about the woods. Their values are in stark contrast. 彭海 takes Baimu into the woods where the crime occurred to reconstruct the case. He believes the only eyewitness on the day of the incident is the entire forest, which can recount everything it has seen. Songzi is half-convinced, while Meishu arrives with a filming crew to document the process. Dramatic events unfold.
