A 9-year-old human boy, Ren (voiced by Aoi Miyazaki), suffers the loss of his mother and refuses the care of relatives. He runs alone onto the bustling streets and coincidentally meets a monster named Kumatetsu (voiced by Koji Yakusho), who is searching for a disciple in the human world. The master of the monster world (voiced by Masahiko Tsugawa) is about to be reborn as a god, and the candidates to take his position will be chosen between Inoshishi (voiced by Kazuhiro Yamaji) and Kumatetsu, but without a legitimate disciple, Kumatetsu's hopes seem dim. Seizing this opportunity, Ren enters the monster world, where he and Kumatetsu constantly argue, but during their conflicts, they seem to gradually come to understand each other. Before long, Ren (played by Shota Sometani) has grown into a skilled young man. He inadvertently returns to the human world, reclaiming his long-lost identity and emotions. Meanwhile, the fateful day for the master’s decision is approaching, and an unexpected event occurs that no one saw coming…
