Liu Yishou (played by Sun Song) is a celebrity in the local Go community. After being unemployed for many years, he can only earn a little extra money by teaching Go at a chess club. Liu's wife (played by Meng Haiyan) disapproves of her husband's obsession with Go and his inability to support the family, so she files for divorce. Their son, Xiaochuan (played by Wang Chengyang), unhesitatingly chooses to stay with his father. After the divorce, Liu Yishou, in order to pay for his son's tuition, is set up by Dong Jia (played by Wang Jingchun) to gamble on Go against others, only to be caught by the police. Faced with Xiaochuan, Liu Yishou is filled with regret and vows to quit gambling, striving to rebuild his image in front of his son. By chance, Liu Yishou discovers that his son has a talent for playing Go, and he decides to send him to a formal chess academy for advanced training, but he is deterred by astronomical tuition fees. Left with no choice, Liu Yishou humbles himself to steal teaching methods, only to be insulted by the masters. Witnessing this, Xiaochuan secretly vows to never let his father's dignity be trampled again and is determined to become a champion. Thus, the father and son develop a unique training method to pursue their future goals...
