Bianca (played by Larisa Oleynik) is the most popular girl in school, but in reality, she hasn't been on a single date—her father is extremely strict with her, causing boys to shy away from her. In response to his daughter's constant protests, her father eventually makes a "concession" by declaring that Bianca can date as long as her sister Kat (played by Julia Stiles) goes too. Upon hearing this news, Cameron (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who has a crush on Bianca, is determined to find someone who can date Kat. After much consideration, he seeks help from Patrick (played by Heath Ledger). Kat is seen as a monster by everyone, seemingly cynical and constantly dissatisfied with anyone and anything.
